About Juanita
Hola, my name is Juanita Martinez, 28 year old proud Mexican-American who speaks terrible Spanish. I go by Juanita or Nita (usually, but I have tons of nicknames.) I was born in Naples, Florida and raised in a small town in southwest Florida named Immokalee, Native for "My Home." I'm naturally a passionate and hard worker, a true product of my environment. Immokalee is a small town centered around the agricultural community of migrant workers. I was raised with an underdog mentality because where I'm from NOTHING is given to you and you work hard for everything. But one thing about the people of my town is the happiness in living here. Not all aspire to ever leave this place because it has everything they need to be happy. Many undocumented immigrants living here are truly living their dream. That has always taught me to be appreciative of where I'm from and to never take it for granted.
Although, my heart will always be in Immokalee my dreams were always to experience beyond the bubble I knew. I left home for college in Tampa, Florida at the University of South Florida (USF) and received my bachelor's degree in Interpersonal and Organizational Communication with a minor in Leadership Studies. I then continued on at USF to receive my master's degree in Public Administration. Prior to and while pursuing my education, I was able to go on several trips around the States that sparked my deep love for traveling. My parents have always loved traveling, especially my daddy (which is probably where I get it from). I was fortunate enough to go on several trips since I was young but I didn't appreciate the beauty of these places at the time. When I got into my early 20s I begin to experience my travels on another level. I fell in love with all the unfamiliar places I visited. There's just something about traveling that brings so much joy to my soul.
I would consider myself as being extremely open-minded about all the differences in the world. Being around other like-minded people allow me to think of things I never thought. I've always been a sociable person and could spark up a conversation with just about anyone which intrigues me to want to know more about where everyone is from. I want to discover all cultures and enrich myself through it all. Traveling teaches me that there's so much in this world that I don't know but yet I crave to find out. I refuse to be a person who looks back and regrets how I spent my valuable time in this beautiful world.
A few other things about me that I must include is my love for my family! Obsessed, completely obsessed with them. They're my best friends and my biggest supporters. Many who know me know that God and family are my priorities over everything. Oh, and I love food! I've heard nothing tastes as good as being skinny feels but I promise if they try my momma's cooking it'll be a wrap! I'm a huge foodie, especially during my travels. I will try just about anything although I couldn't get myself to try frog legs, just couldn't. If I could be Guy Fieri in another lifetime I would be pretty satisfied (look him up if you don't know who he is.) Also, I love to take pictures! Mostly with my iPhone which usually does the trick. I enjoy shooting anything from the infamous selfies, to popular landmarks, to my food and to absolutely random things that I find exceptional.
This page is dedicated to and created for my family and friends who wanted to follow along with my travel journeys. I invite you to follow along as I share the ins and outs of my adventures through my blogs and pictures. And don't be shy to comment, I'd love the feedback!
